Shrinkage in NL

Some parts of The Netherlands are allready shrinking. In the near future this shrinkage will spread troughout the country. By 2025 half of the Dutch municipalities have to deal with shrinkage.

Some time about 2035, the whole of the netherlands will be shrinking as well as the whole of Europe by then. For now the Provinces of Limburg, Zeeland and Groningen are areas where shrinkage occurs. In Groningen and Zeeland mostly rural areas, in Limburg the situation is different in being a highly urbanised area of a number of cities known as Parkstad Limburg. Recent publications indicate that the so called ‘new towns’ (Almere and Spijkenisse etc.) started shrinking as well.
